Stage 07
From cured component to trimmed, drilled and finished geometry, including the machining challenges specific to CFRP.

After the relevant cure or moulding cycle, the component is released from its tool and reviewed before trimming, machining and cosmetic finishing.

Dry textiles and prepregs can be cut with CNC digital cutting systems, rotating knives or ultrasonic tools. The cutting method is selected to preserve material integrity and reduce fraying or other edge defects.

Cured CFRP often needs trimmed edges, holes, slots and mounting interfaces. Carbon fiber is abrasive and difficult to machine, so tooling, fiber orientation and cutting conditions influence tool wear and edge quality.

Machining can create defects such as delamination, fiber pull-out or damaged edges. Tool selection, support, feed strategy and inspection should reflect the laminate and required interface.

Waterjet cutting can be used for thicker or multilayer polymer composites where the component and process specification support it. It is one of several possible cutting routes rather than a universal requirement.

Trimmed and machined edges are finished and sealed as required before surface finishing, bonding, hardware installation or final assembly.

Before production
The vehicle name alone is not enough for a custom composite order. The exact interfaces, finish direction and supplied component schedule should be confirmed before production.

Fitment confirmation
Vehicle-specific details that require VIN, photos, mounting or interface review.
Confirm model year, market specification, body style and current exterior configuration.
Front, side, rear and the exact component area should be documented before quotation.
Dry carbon, forged-carbon appearance, exposed weave, painted zones and clear finish must be defined.
Confirm sensors, cameras, lamps, grilles, exhaust outlets, undertrays and adjacent panels.
Brackets, hardware, panel gaps and left/right alignment should be reviewed before final finishing.
The final component schedule should state each supplied panel, trim piece, mesh, bracket and hardware item.
